The City boss confessed experiencing "embarrassment" after an exchange with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's loss at Newcastle this past weekend.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and engaged in intense talks with the referee, Sam Barrott and Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I said sorry," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the cameraman. That's just me. After 1,000 games I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"What is for sure, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. Why I want to defend my team is clear – because from my experience to win the Premier League we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, the coach explained: "We have known Bruno a long time and every time after the game, home or away, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and we get along well. I love it. I’m an emotional guy, I love to talk and move my hands."

Guardiola would not be concerned if an opposition manager spoke to his players right after the final whistle. "Not if it's respectful as I do, it’s not a problem," he noted, mentioning the referee. "The referee was involved throughout the match, constantly. Goodness, he was involved."

The team felt aggrieved that the officials did not award City a penalty for a Fabian Schär challenge on Phil Foden, while they also questioned Bruno's positioning when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Subsequent images indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Guardiola will take charge his century in Europe against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday. "That's impressive, showing we compete we have been there," he commented.

City have 10 points after four games in the group, and Leverkusen hold five.
