Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the US has remained silent.

Regional Interceptions

In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the leadership.

In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with notable success and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

Officials reported wreckage fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.

The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
